Blast Detroit Youth Code 2 week summer Bootcamp main focus is to introduce underserved youth to Computer Science and Coding with the vision of getting youth future ready for careers in the Computer Science IT and STEM fields of Technology from basic literacy to advanced computer science. Through Blast Youth Code, students have the opportunity to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills along with using their creativity to explore the world of advanced technology. Blast Youth Code 8 years and older program introduce youth to the following:
1. Beginners Fun with Computers and Coding
- Complete basic coding challenges
- Understand the essentials abut how computers work
- Turn the tables and teach adults how to complete a coding activity
2. Minecraft Coding-Learn Computer Science with your favorite game
- Create original coding programs in their own Minecraft world
- Learn new computer science concepts, such as events, coordinates, variables, and conditionals
- Practice using computational, problem-solving and creative thinking skills
3. Make your own Movie with 3D and Mixed Reality
- Learn who to use Paint 3D, Mixed Reality Viewer, and the Photos App for creative projects
- Complete a movie to share with friends and family
- Participate in a movie premiere at the final camp session
4. Code a talking Robot with Ohbot
- Understand how coding and robotics work in everyday life
- Learn fundamental coding concepts in line with K-12 computer science standards
- Code the Ohbot Robot to talk
5. PowerPoint and Word Presentations
- Get familiar with key tools in PowerPoint and Word
- Feel confident using a Surface Device and Pen
- Create an original story with text and images in a small group
6. Start a Business
- Learn how to turn your passion into a great entrepreneurial business idea
- Develop a robust business plan and how to pitch your idea
- Present business plan for feedback and insight
